Start of study

Welcome to the Biology Program at Heinrich Heine University

Welcome dear new students of Biology at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. In order to give you a smooth start into your studies, we have compiled some information for you here. Some of the information you will also receive again at the ESAG, from 02.10. - 06.10.2023, as well as in the orientation tutorials during the winter semester. We are looking forward to you as well.

Pre-courses

Since some of the minor subjects like chemistry, physics and mathematics are already read in the first semester in biology, these subjects of the Mat.-Nat. faculty offer pre-courses for you. These courses start already in September, so before the ESAG and the actual beginning of the semester. The participation in the courses is free of charge for you, you just have to register here. We recommend you to participate, because the minor subjects are often a problem for many biology students and besides getting used to university life you will also learn enough new material that you should not refresh your knowledge in the subjects at the same time. The preliminary courses are mainly for those of you who did not take one of the subjects as a basic or advanced course in the upper school. All pre-courses offered for you biologists will take place daily from 04.09. - 29.09.2023. Below you will find the times of the courses and a short description.

Chemistry (Hybrid)
The chemistry pre-course takes place daily from 14:30 - 17:00 in lecture hall 5F in building 25.21. It is held as a lecture with exercises. In this course you will learn the basics of chemical reactions, the structure of atoms and bonds as well as the basics of acids and bases and redox reactions.

Physics (Hybrid)
The physics pre-course takes place daily from 11:30 - 14:00 in lecture hall 5F in building 25.21. It is held as a lecture with exercises. In this course you will learn the basics of mechanics, optics, electrics and thermodynamics.

Math (Hybrid)
The math pre-course takes place daily from 08:30 - 11:00 in lecture hall 5F in building 25.21. It is held as a lecture with exercises.

To help you find the lecture halls and find your way around the campus, we have marked a small map with the most important information for you. The complete campus map can be found here.

If you take part in the pre-courses, please have a look at the student council. We can give you some tips and help you sort out one or two things before you start your studies.

More information about the courses and when they take place can be found on the page of the preliminary courses.
